This dessert is a hit at parties! If you like chocolate and have friends and family who like chocolate (really, who doesn’t??). I must warn you, proceed with caution…if you allow your friends or family to try this dessert they will be requesting that you make it for every party or family event for the rest of time!! That’s what happens with great dishes right?? You find that one family member that makes it soooo well and they’re stuck for life! I have two aunts on my dad’s side with this problem! Check out my Aunt Val’s recipe for Snickers Salad! And if you are reading this…see you at Christmas…with your salad!!;)
The first time I made this was at Thanksgiving, I made it for a large group in a glass truffle cake dish, which worked out great. The second time I had a little more fun with the presentation. I made it for my boss’s birthday and got wine glasses (hers was decorative and had “Birthday Girl” on it) and layered the ingredients in the glasses. This made for a beautiful and fun presentation. I made four glasses for the office and had leftovers to dish up and take to a few other friends. This dessert keeps in the refrigerator just fine for a couple days.
- 1 Package of Jell-O Instant Chocolate Pudding
- 1 Package of Dream Whip
- 3 Cups Cold Milk
- 1 Cup Kahlua
- 1 Large Cool Whip Container
- 10 Heath Bars, Crushed
Make your favorite chocolate cake in a 9×13 pan. Let the cake cool completely.
Mix one package of Jell-O Instant Chocolate pudding and one package of Dream Whip with three cups of cold milk to make the mousse.
After the cake cools, slice the cake in one-inch squares. Drizzle one cup of Kahlua over the cake and refrigerate for ½ hour. Crumble the cake.
In a large trifle bowl, layer (glass works best to show the layers):
- ½ the mousse
- ½ the container of Cool Whip
- 5 crushed Heath bars
Repeat the layer – Cake, mousse, Cool Whip, Heath bars and refrigerate.
I looked everywhere for a trifle bowl and to my surprise, couldn’t find one in stores. Grab one on Amazon!
If you are setting this out at a party be sure to label it, “Contains Alcohol”.
