This is my favorite family tradition! A whole weekend of baking, Christmas movies, and my brother’s favorite breakfast! Each year we make Christmas tins for colleagues and friends made up of our family’s secret cookie recipe, Dad’s Almond Roca, Muddy Buddies (aka Puppy Chow, Reindeer Poop), fudge and bark. Sometimes we add pecan fingers if we’re not too exhausted after everything else! Each year we make a different kind of fudge and bark, but the rest stays the same. These recipes are requested every year! Friday night we go shopping and start the baking, we split the jobs between the five of us; everyone pitches in!
My friends and colleagues always ask for my dad’s roca recipe! We have been making Christmas goodie plates and tins every year and it seems the list of recipients grow each year too! Here’s one of the favs by anyone who has tried our Christmas baking. Read about our family’s Weekend Christmas Tradition too! This tradition is the only way we get all of our baking done!!
Rolled-up pancakes are a family favorite and have been for as long as I can remember! They are so easy to make and fun to eat! The texture is unique and much different than traditional pancakes. Cinnamon sugar is a great topping and one of my nephew’s favorites. You can use syrup but expect to get sticky fingers if you’re eating these right! Butter and powdered sugar are definitely my favorite toppings. My brother always loved to pile on the powdered sugar when he was a kid. My mom told us about one morning he wanted to eat on the trampoline so after making his plate he went outside and just as he stepped off the porch a breeze came up and a cloud of powdered sugar rose off his pancake and floated off in the distance. My mom stood at the window laughing as he watched it float away. Check out our favorite time to make Rolled-up Pancakes, during our Weekend Christmas Tradition! Ok, now on to the recipe!
This dessert is a hit at parties! If you like chocolate and have friends and family who like chocolate (really, who doesn’t??). I must warn you, proceed with caution…if you allow your friends or family to try this dessert they will be requesting that you make it for every party or family event for the rest of time!! That’s what happens with great dishes right?? You find that one family member that makes it soooo well and they’re stuck for life! I have two aunts on my dad’s side with this problem! Check out my Aunt Val’s recipe for Snickers Salad! And if you are reading this…see you at Christmas…with your salad!!;)
This is my Aunt Val’s go-to salad and the one that is requested just about every family holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, it really goes with all of them!
Snickers Salad is by far the easiest salad you will ever make! It’s a great summertime potluck salad and is always a hit! A big pointer, make it as close as possible to the time you will serve it. The fresher it is, the better! Don’t plan for leftovers, it won’t hold the best for more than a day.
